Smartphones, tablets and other portable electronics have become ubiquitous in today’s world. It is no longer just the ‘tech lovers’ who are faced with the constant need of recharging their gadgets. In a regular household of two parents and two children, one is likely find at least four smartphones that need recharging – on a daily basis.
Dittrich Design decided to address this need, not by creating another gadget, but rather by creating furniture. This is where the ALLDOCK comes in.
ALLDOCK was conceptualized in 2012 as an element of interior design. The goal was to reduce cable clutter in an elegant, gimmick-free manner. Today we can proudly assert that the ALLDOCK’s design allows it to look as great in your living room, as it does on a conference table or in a hotel.
Gadgets tend to demand our attention and occupy our cognitive resources. Well-designed furniture, on the other hand, makes us feel comfortable with our surroundings, allowing us to focus on what really matters. We created the ALLDOCK so that the concern of, “How do I recharge my electronics?” occupies our customers’ minds no more than the question of how to settle into their favourite armchair.

Can I add multiple Accessory Wearable Mounts on my ALLDOCK?
Yes, it is extremely easy to add multiple Wearable Mounts on your ALLDOCK.
If you have a purchased an ALLDOCK with a TIMBER TOP (Bamboo or Walnut), you have the flexibility to screw in a mount onto each of the dock rails (LHS) . Although there are no screw holes it is also possible to secure either the AirPod or fitbit mount on the (RHS).
If you have purchased an ALLDOCK with a Black or White Top, one accessory can be secured in the screw hole 3rd Rail of (LHS). For additional mounts (AirPod or fitbit) they can be secured on RHS. Refer to below illustration.
What charging cable system should I purchase?
So you have decided that you want to add new cables to your ALLDOCK.
You have a number of options;
1. What type of devices to I want to charge in the ALLDOCK?
If your answer is APPLE then you will require MFi Certified Apple Cables. If you have Android devices then you will require Micro Cables. We also have C-Type Cables for the most recently launched Android Devices.
2. Single Cables V's One Hand Docking?
Our one hand docking is a unique system of cable management. The adapter allows you to secure your cable within your ALLDOCK and thus allows you to dock your device to its cable with one hand. Our Single cables are a perfect option to have more flexibility in the charging position of the device in the ALLDOCK. You can also install your own cables, but ensure they are certified and in excellent condition to carry the Alldock high charge current.
What does it look like inside the ALLDOCK?
If you take the top off the ALLDOCK and look inside you will see a USB Charger Block bolted into the base. A 4 port Charger in the medium ALLDOCK and 6 ports in the large ALLDOCK

Why does the cable head pull from the one hand docking adaptor when removing my device?
To avoid cable head pulling out of your adaptor when removing your device from the dock, ensure the cable is laid and secured within the adapter base channel. See below.

IMPORTANT NOTE : If you are using cases on your devices, recommend you utilise our Rubber Inlays which when installed as illustrated above will raise the cable head in the adaptor to compensate for case thickness. Inlays are included in all One Hand Docking Packs.
Why Your iPhone or iPad Is Saying “This Cable or Accessory Is Not Certified”
Apple’s iPhones and iPads use its own Lightning connector for charging and data transmission. You can purchase third-party cables and accessories, but they must be certified. (MFi) If a cable or accessory wasn’t certified by Apple, you’ll see a warning message when you connect it.
It must be understood that this message is generated from the cable itself and has nothing to do with the operation of the ALLDOCK charging HUB. Note also all cables for purchase on the ALLDOCK website are certified and of a high quality to carry the 2.4A of charging power.
Apple offers an “MFi Certification Program.” “MFi” stands for “Made for iPhone,” “Made for iPad,” and “Made for iPod.” Third-party accessories and cables that advertise they’re “MFi certified” have gone through Apple’s certification process to ensure they’re compatible with Apple’s hardware and well-made.
iPhones and iPads started enforcing this restriction when iOS 7 was introduced. There’s actually a little authentication chip inside Lightning cables and other accessories. This authentication chip communicates with your iPhone or iPad, which is how your device knows whether you’re using an Apple-approved cable or accessory, or one the manufacturer didn’t put through Apple’s certification program.
Uncertified cables could damage your iPhone or iPad, or the cable itself might easily fall apart. The Lightning connector might fall off, get very hot, or not fit your device properly. You might be unable to sync or charge your iPhone or iPad with the cable, too. That’s why the message warns “This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPhone (or iPad)”.
Due to the reduced construction quality of Uncertified cables ( ie reduced sheath insulation) there is also an increased risk of Arc ignition of crossed/damaged wires. Ignition will often originate at cable head. (FYI below)

How does Wireless Charging Work?
You’ve probably heard something about wireless charging already. More and more devices have come out which support this technology and allow you to charge your phone without cables. You will probably also have heard terms such as Qi, induction and wireless coils. This article will explain what Wireless Charging exactly is.
Let’s start by shortly explaining some terms to take away the confusion about wireless charging, or induction charging.
Induction Charging – This is the physical principle upon which wireless charging is based. When someone speaks about wireless charging, they are automatically also speaking about induction charging.
Qi Charging – This is a standard for wireless (or induction) charging which has been developed by a consortium of large companies, universities and other parties, including almost all major phone companies such as Samsung, LG and many others (https://www.wirelesspowerconsortium.com/member-list/). It has become the dominant standard for wireless, or inductive, charging, which almost all devices these days use.
Wireless Coil or Patch – The working of inductive charging depends on two wired coils (how this works will be explained below) which transfer power to each other. Both the charging device (E.g. power bank) and the charged device (E.g. phone) must have such a coil to allow wireless charging.
Without delving into the exact physical explanations: when electricity ‘travels’ through a copper wire, it provides an electromagnetic field. The inductive coil used for wireless charging has a special placement of copper wires to create a specific magnetic field. The magnetic field which is created by the sending coil (E.g. charging station) interacts with the receiving coil. In turn this magnetic field is turned into power by the receiving coil and then transferred to the device (E.g. mobile phone).
In other words: Electricity – sender coil – magnetic field – receiving coil – electricity.
In short: Yes wireless charging is safe
The idea of wireless charging sounds rather dangerous, as you may think of electrical current running through one place to the other, or potential of harmful radiation. In truth it is however harmless. First of all, as you have read above, the power is transferred through the use of magnetic fields. There is in fact no electricity flying through the air, but magnetic fields, which exists around us everywhere already also.
Secondly, the objection of radiation is slightly more meaningful, but also does not apply. The technology of wireless charging has been used in electric toothbrushes for decades, without any indication that it could be harmful. The devices are also not omitting anything unless both coils reach each other and even then any radiation is insignificantly little due to the close proximity of the devices. In addition to this, the consortium behind Qi has further shielded both the sending and receiving coil, minimalizing any form of radiation.
Why the Qi standard?
The Qi standard for inductive charging seems to have become the worldwide standard for wireless charging. This brings with it the advantage that all devices which use wireless charging are compatible with each other. In other words, you can charge any Qi inductive charging device on any Qi charging station. All phones, which use wireless charging, currently operate on this standard, as do virtually all accessories. This takes away any potential confusion among users of wireless charging.
There are several nice aspects of the Qi standard, which are used in all devices:
- The devices will not create the charging magnetic fields, until both a sending and a receiving coil are in close enough proximity.
- Both sender and receiver move to standby mode once the receiver has been fully charged
- The sending coil checks for the energy requirements of the receiving device and adjusts the flows accordingly.
- Both coils are shielded to minimize electromagnetic rays

Why doesn't the ALLDOCK come with Charging Cables?
As I hope you will understand, because of the amazing flexibility to charge all types of devices, it is impossible for us to include cables to suite everybody's charging needs.
We encourage our customers to either simply gather all the cable clutter around the house and install into your new ALLDOCK or view across our cable options and add new cables to your ALLDOCK purchase.
Will my device cases fit in the ALLDOCK?
This is often a very difficult question to answer. Generally, device cases come in many different shapes and sizes. Our unique and patented design means we have to keep a consistent rail width to allow your devices to stand.
The front rails on all ALLDOCKS are .53" wide. This width will cater for most smart cases. The back rail of our Timber Range and while in design transition now, many of our Classic ALLDOCKs have a .7" back rail to cater for thicker cases.
What is the charging ability of the ALLDOCK?
Our USB power HUBS produce 2400mAh from each USB port. Ensuring a high work load, charging up to 6 devices at full throttle simultaneously.
The intelligent charging converter technology provided by the IC chip can identify the connected device model, automatically matching the best current to achieve the best charging effect.
Thanks to a component upgrade, ALLDOCK has become more energy efficient, without any compromises in its charging speed.
